THEATRE LECTURE & WORKSHOP Shakespeare on his stage

A group of young theatre enthusiasts joined the Shakespeare actor and director Norbert Kentrup to explore the technique and philosophy of Shakespeare’s Globe. Trough theater exercises and by trying out Shakespeare’s texts they got to experience what it means to play in the special Globe setting. Here, on the central stage, they could see what a circular and participatory communication method means – in theatre as well in Europe and in our society.

The event was a joint project with la Friche Laiterie (www.lafrichelaiterie.org)

Norbert Kentrup

The lecture is based on the rich experience of Norbert Kentrup as well as his profound knowledge of the Shakespearian characters. He has been impersonating them all King Lear, Othello, Maria, Falstaff, Titus Andronicus, Macbeth, Sir Toby and also Timon of Athens. Moreover he has staged different plays inside of Shakespeare’s Globe with its particular architecture, e.g. Pericles, Prince of Tyre, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Twelfth Night.

Until now he is the only actor of German nationality who has the honour to play inside of the Globe Theatre in London. He has portrayed the part of Shylock in Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice.
